Minimally Invasive Surgery

Advances in medical technology have allowed surgeons to perform complex surgery through small incisions with robotic instruments and state-of-the-art cameras. This keyhole surgery is less uncomfortable for the patient, results in shorter stays in hospital, improved recovery times and less scarring. Through this minimally invasive surgery, I carry out bowel resections to treat patients who have bowel cancer, inflammatory bowel disease (Crohn’s disease and ulcerative colitis) and diverticular disease.

Hernia Repair

A hernia occurs when part of your intestine pokes through a weak spot in your abdominal wall muscles. It can happen because of aging but also develop suddenly after putting pressure on the abdominal muscles through things like heavy coughing or straining. It can be painful and if it does not get better by itself, surgery is often recommended. The operation I perform involves pushing the protruding tissue back into place and repairing the abdominal wall through open or keyhole surgery.

Colonoscopy and Sigmoidoscopy

I perform these procedures to investigate the cause of your bowel symptoms.A colonoscopy examines the entire colon, while a sigmoidoscopy looks at the lower part of the colon, also known as the rectum and sigmoid colon. Both procedures involve passing a narrow calibre camera into the colon through the bottom, allowing me to see any abnormalities. Even though you are awake during the procedure, you will be made as comfortable as possible, at all times.
