Laparoscopic Surgery

Advances in medical technology have allowed surgeons to perform complex surgery through small incisions with finer instruments and state-of-the-art cameras. This keyhole surgery is less uncomfortable for the patient, results in shorter stays in hospital, improved recovery times and less scarring. Through this minimally invasive surgery, I carry out bowel resections to treat patients who have bowel cancer, Crohn’s disease and ulcerative colitis (both Inflammatory bowel disease) and diverticular disease.

Hernia Repair

A hernia occurs when part of your intestine pokes through a weak spot in your abdominal wall muscles. It can happen because of aging but also develop suddenly after putting pressure on the abdominal muscles through things like heavy coughing or straining. It can be painful and if it does not get better by itself, surgery is often recommended. The operation I perform involves pushing the protruding tissue back into place and repairing the abdominal wall through open or keyhole surgery.

Proctology

I treat disorders of the sacrococcygeal area (the base of the spine by the tailbone), rectum and anus (bottom). This includes pilonidal disease, a chronic skin infection in the crease of the buttocks near the tailbone; anorectal abscesses, which are infected cavities filled with pus found near the anus; haemorrhoids, lumps inside and around your anus; anal fissures, a small tear in the lining of your anus and anal fistula, a small tunnel that develops between the end of the bowel and the skin near the anus.

Colonoscopy and Sigmoidoscopy

I perform these procedures to investigate the cause of your bowel symptoms. A colonoscopy examines the entire colon, while a sigmoidoscopy looks at the lower part of the colon, also known as the rectum and sigmoid colon. Both procedures involve passing a narrow calibre camera into the colon through the bottom, allowing me to see any abnormalities. Even though you are awake during the procedure, you will be made as comfortable as possible, at all times.
