Vanash Patel

Vanash was friendly and caring. One of the few doctors to take the time to explain everything in a simple way and to answer all of my questions. Before my surgery he explained in detail all of the possible outcomes, good and bad and still managed to put my mind at rest about the surgery. During my re overt period, he would also try to include me in decisions regarding my treatment before giving his recommendations to the nurses or other doctors so that I felt like part of the process. I hope that I never have to have this type of major surgery ever again but if I do, Vanash will be one of the people that I will want in the room.

Vanash inspires confidence and alleviates your worry as you know you are in “good hands” which is most important for a patient. It’s as good as it gets. Very approachable and his caring is beyond expectations. I am on day 5 of my low anterior resection and I feel great and ready to go home thanks to Vanash.

My son was admitted on Monday morning with suspected appendicitis. It became very clear within a couple of hours that he would need surgery. Dr Vanash Patel came to talk us through the procedure. As a parent, you are naturally worried when it’s your child and for my son, it was scary knowing he had to have an operation. Dr Patel was brilliant he sat down with us and explained exactly what would happen. He was very caring and listened carefully to any questions we had. We felt very reassured. The Op went very well and in the morning he explained clearly what to expect in terms of aftercare etc when we went home. My son is recovering well Thank you so much for your great care. Keep up your good work.

A truly fantastic professional Doctor. Provides excellent care and made me feel safe and very well informed every step of the way. I highly, highly recommend him. We are all aware being unwell can be a worrying ordeal for yourself and family members and i feel fortunate to have been under his care as I felt reassured. I had the recent pleasure of being a patient under this Consultant/Surgeon. Even as a nurse, I was apprehensive of my surgery, however Mr Patel has a calm and warm approach and made me feel at ease. More than anything he came to check on me on the wards twice a day and ensured I was progressing and had everything I needed for discharge. Simple but reassuring. I believe my surgery to be a success (I’m only 5 days post-op) and without a doubt this is down to the care received, expertise and knowledge of the team. My keyhole surgery to remove a tumour on the intestine was amazing. I was expecting a lot more pain and discomfort. 10 days after the op I stopped needing any painkillers, was eating well, sleeping well and walking the dog every day. Mr Patel was very helpful in explaining things before and after the op. The hospital staff (Watford) were all good too. My thanks to all of them.

From the minute I first Mr Patel on Christmas Eve 2019 I felt I was in very competent and confident hands. His manner was first class and very reassuring at this stressful time, he explained every stage of the diagnosis and procedure in very understandable terms. On the day of the operation, he took great care to go over everything again whilst completing the obligatory paperwork. Immediately after the procedure he even rang my wife to inform that it had gone well and put her completely at ease. He visited the ward with his colleagues on a couple of occasions after the operation and explained the positives and the challenges of my procedure. We even agreed there and then on the date of the follow-up meeting. We live in an area where it is vogue to say that people insisted on a specific surgeon to carry out a procedure, I have to say that as a result of my experience I would have no hesitation in recommending Mr Patel and the NHS to everyone in a similar position. Finally, we have been paying huge sums each year for private medical care, I can assure anyone reading this that they could not get better treatment than that which I have received over the last few weeks with the NHS.

Mr Patel from the beginning explained everything to me in a particularly clear, helpful and patient way. I felt fully informed of the situation and my options. I particularly appreciate the trouble he took to secure my early treatment. After my operation he has continued to be attentive and supportive. I cannot think of any way in which his care could be improved.

Mr Patel performed bowel surgery for cancer just as Watford hospital was hosting Covid19 patients ( in a separate part of the hospital). Mr Patel was so reassuring and calm and explained everything clearly. I had no worries about the surgery- I was much more concerned about the virus. The operation went ahead as planned and I left hospital early as I was well enough to do so. Ten days later he rang me himself to explain the results of the tests. Excellent service at such a busy and stressful time for all in the NHS. I would have no hesitation in recommending Mr V Patel as a surgeon, and Watford General for their care

I had excellent care from Dr Patel he saw me promptly after I was referred by my GP and got me seen quickly for several scans and procedures and gave me an early hospital date for an operation. The first date had to be postponed partially due to Covid-19 and me having a cold and cough but he then got me an early operation date at The Spire where he was very attentive and informative before and after the operation.

I was under the care of Mr V Patel, as I have had a lot of major operations in the past, all at WGH, I was a little worried, although I had met him in the Outpatients dept once. I was admitted to WGH as an emergency and put under the care of Mr Vanash Patel I was in hospital for four weeks,.I must admit I looked. Forward to every morning when he came to review me, unfortunately, he said I should go to St Mark’s for my op but just as the coved-19 started my op was cancelled but he told me he would make sure I would go to StMarks, true to his word I have an app on 20 May at St Mark’s, I would definitely recommend, he is very attentive explains every aspect of what is happening and never in a rush, as I am sure he is, his whole demeanour is very positive and immediately you can relate and speak and he understands.

My husband has just come out of hospital (Spires Bushy) after having a hernia & stomach reconstruction… we’ve had quite a horrendous experience with another hospital nearly loosing my husband, many operations, coma etc… when this op came up we were both very scared, but Mr Vanash Patel explained in detail & answered all our questions, He truly is a wonderful doctor/surgeon who put us both as ease… as soon as my husband’s operation was over Mr Patel rang me. My mother was a patient at Watford General for over three weeks, and was in the Intensive Care Unit following her operation. She is now recovering at home and I am submitting this review on her behalf. These are her words: ‘Mr Patel, with his calm and kind professional authority, always seemed to impart to me – no matter how deeply anxious I was at the time – a renewed sense of hope and confidence in the future that was still a possibility. I did, of course, also appreciate enormously the care and attention that I received from all the nursing staff at Watford General.’ I too would like to express my deepest gratitude to Mr Patel and to the nurses for the exceptional care that they showed to my mother throughout her time in hospital. As the operation took place during the Covid 19 Lockdown, all communication had to be via telephone rather than in person. Thanks to the exceptional attentiveness, expertise, and sensitivity of Mr Patel and the nurses looking after my mother, I was able to keep very well informed and reassured about her progress. I would like to thank Mr Patel very much indeed for speaking to me at length on the telephone both before and after my mother’s operation. He explained to me very clearly why the operation was necessary, exactly what it would involve, what the benefits and risks of the operation were, and how long my mother might need to stay in hospital to recover following the operation. He answered all my questions most informatively and sensitively. I was immensely appreciative that he phoned me as soon as the operation had been done. I felt that that call showed an exceptional degree of attentiveness and understanding towards family members. My deepest thanks to Mr Patel for taking such good care of my dear mother.

Mr Patel was one of the surgeons who operated on me to remove part of my bowel that was cancerous. After the operation, he spent time explaining what had been done and answered questions about my care going forward and queries I had about how quickly I could resume my “normal” life activities in the following months. At all times he was courteous and reassuring.

I recently had Colorectal surgery at the Spire Hospital Bushey carried out by Vanash Patel. The entire procedure from the initial consultation with Mr Patel to discharge from hospital went extremely well. I at no time experienced anything other than confidence that the operation would be successful and carried out with great skill and testament to this is that after only a week I felt well and almost back to normal. I would certainly recommend Mr Patel to anybody who unfortunately finds themselves in the same position as I did.

I was very happy with the care and treatment I received whilst under the care of Mr Patel. He explained my procedure simply in a manner I felt I could ask for any explanation . After surgery he was attentive and again provided me with the opportunity to voice and concerns . His calm and practical manner was very reassuring ..

Mr Vanash Patel was and is a great doctor, he was very understanding and took the time to explain everything that was needed, he also kept checking up on the obs and made sure I was getting the care I needed. I am very happy with the way I was treated by him and his team and would most definitely recommend him to anyone in the future, overall he is a great person as well as a great doctor and it was a pleasure to be under his care and I would like to thank him for all he has done.

This young surgeon was clear and concise and gave me confidence in what he said about which procedure he was to perform. During the summer of 2020 I was admitted to Watford General Hospital for an emergency operation. I was under the excellent care of Mr. Vanish Patel and his team. I am extremely grateful for Mr. Patel’s dedication and care during this difficult time. It was major surgery and his support was greatly appreciated and he certainly went the extra mile during my stay

Mr (Vanesh) Patel is amazing. I have had some terrible news, but he and his team have been open, honest and compassionate in explaining to me the current situation, and the way forward. He has clarified each step, asking me how it was, how I felt, and been responsive to my needs. He has been calm, positive but enquiring as to how I am coping with the situation. He has called within hours of new information being available, to keep me updated. He has arranged an endoscopy and a scan almost immediately. Everyone knows my file, is warm and personal, but professional. Cancer nurses, again knowing my file, have called to follow up. The whole team (Watford General/nursing specialists) is joined up and reassuring in the circumstances. I will not go on the internet to research information, as I have complete trust and confidence in the information I have been given (verbal and specific McMillan booklet). I only wish that all nhs patients (like me) had this level of care. Unfortunately we don’t often hear good news stories. Difficult to suggest how the service could be improved, to be honest, but I will keep mindful of this!

What can I say about Vanash Patel and his team that hadn’t already been said. He cares! I was extremely worried when I was given my diagnosis but when my wife and I met him, it didn’t take long to get the reassurance that we both needed. He and the team have a knack of putting things in perspective and the clearer things are for patients, the easier it is to get through the procedures that lay ahead. We were both amazed with the follow up calls from the specialist nurses and how we were made to feel like individuals with our own unique set of concerns. We’ve never felt like just one of many. We thank him and the MDT for all their input. How things have changed over the years, from “don’t ask questions”, to ask what you like. As much information as one can ask for. I was diagnosed with rectal cancer in January 2021. I saw Dr. Patel on 1st February to discuss findings of tests. There was a possibility that it had spread to my lungs so Dr. Patel arranged a PET scan which showed that the cancer was confined to bowels and nothing in lungs. He then decided that I would tolerate surgery and went through the options with me. Having come to a decision I was referred for surgery and had the operation on 17.3.21. During the whole process I was kept informed of what was happening and received the best possible care from Dr. Patel and all the staff at Watford General Hospital. I now have a new lease of life and look forward to the future.

I met Mr. Patel as an emergency referral patient through my GP and can honestly say he saved my life if it wasn’t for him and his team being so efficient knowledgeable and acting so quickly at the time things would not have turned out as they did for me. He was so kind understanding and patient at all times explaining exactly what I was going through and what he needed to do.

This was the best treatment I have ever had within the NHS. Mr Patel made me feel comfortable and safe in his care . I could not ask for more . Everything was well managed and now back home after having had a cancerous bowel tumor removed I feel confident of a speedy recovery. A Massive thanks to you and your wonderful team.

Mr Patel spoke to me on the telephone a few times about my Mother’s care whilst she was in hospital. On each occasion he was helpful, patient, honest and respectful; showing empathy towards my Mother, her situation and myself. I know my Mother said that he always took the time to talk to her about her care. We are very grateful for the care he gave my Mother. Thank you Mr Patel.

Dr Patel met us today to give us the results of lab analysis of samples taken during the colonic cancer surgery that he carried out two weeks ago on my wife. He was careful to explain everything that had happened and what they found in the analysis. A total of 52 lymph nodes were examined and no sign of cancer was found. This meant no chemotherapy but Dr Patel explained the follow-up monitoring procedure that the unit operates as standard. Because of this we were finally able to relax in the knowledge that the correct procedure had been carried out in the correct way. Dr Patel’s manner was at all times considerate and he listened carefully to any questions that I or my wife asked – and he answered the questions equally carefully. We are both very pleased with the treatment my wife received and have full confidence in the unit.

I have had two operations , one in December the other three weeks ago, performed by Mr Patel and his team. From the first consultation I found Mr Patel very easy to talk to , very professional and showing lots of empathy and consideration. He understood the discomfort I was experiencing and fitted my recent operation into his busy schedule. He and his team showed a lot of consideration in letting me know what to expect and in following up the operation later. Overall I felt very well looked after though out my hospital experience.

Dr Patel has been a a great help at getting me out of the toughest point in my life. His calm and pragmatic approach helped me get the best treatment that I needed, when I needed it. Him and his team have helped save my life. From pre-care to post-care Dr Patel and his team have been there every step of the way with guidance, advice and reassurance that I was on the road to recovery. I can’t recommend him enough.

In May this year I was diagnosed with rectal cancer. Hearing those words was the scariest I have ever felt in my life. I was very fortunate to have Mr Vanash Patel as one of my surgeons at Watford General Hospital. He is professional, kind, genuinely caring and interested in your wellbeing. He ensured I had all my investigations in place to confirm what was suspected on colonoscopy in less than 72 hours. Scary as the diagnosis was, the anxious wait for investigations to confirm the diagnosis is harder to endure. Mr Patel’s efforts ensured all investigations were done swiftly to receive confirmation of my diagnosis. Mr Patel is very patient, and I never felt rushed with any of my consultations. He took great care to address my concerns and to explain everything to me in the clearest possible manner including treatment options, procedures and after care. I would like to extend my heartfelt thanks to Mr Patel for the exceptional care I received. I am very pleased with the outcome of my surgery. Surgeons like Mr Vanash Patel are an asset to Watford General Hospital and our NHS and I wish him all the best very best and many more years of service.

I attended Emergency Surgical Unit in Sept 2021. Mr Patel was very calm and attentive to my presenting symptoms. I felt very well looked after, and the initial and additional tests were done efficiently and calmly. I was kept updated about tests results as soon as they were ready. The relevant specialists required to treat me were then promptly consulted and a treatment plan put into action. I feel the care given to me at Watford General Hospital by Mr Vanash Patel and his team was outstanding, and anyone under his care is in the best hands.

So back in 2019 I went to Watford General with severe stomach pain. Having been through the scans and all I was fortunate to have Vanash as my surgeon for a right hemicolectomy. He explained everything so well both pre and post the operation. Did such an amazing job with the op and aftercare too. Even after I got discharged he always answered my queries and saw me at his clinic to reassure and check my scars for many months. Vanash and his team were so amazing, professional and caring. They made me fall in love with our NHS , I have so much gratitude for all the workers there.

I was diagnosed with bowel cancer in Jan 2021. I met Mr Patel in Feb to discuss surgery. He immediately put me at ease and explained very thoroughly the process and the results and and the way forward. The operation was performed in early March. During the next 2 weeks or so I was in hospital, he and the team looked after me very well. He has been calm, positive but enquiring as to how I am coping with the situation. He also contacted my wife almost every day to inform her of my progress. Upon release from hospital he continued to call me a few times to enquire as to my progress. I found him very affable and very knowledgeable. All through the process he put me at ease. I couldn’t have asked for a better surgeon.

Saw Mr Patel for pre-op consultation. He was calm and reassuring, answering my questions openly and honestly. I was confident that my surgery would be in good hands. On the day of the surgery I saw him again before the procedure and my initial impression was reinforced. Post-surgery he visited again and he informed me that all had gone well and my experience since that time has confirmed this opinion. Mr Patel never made me feel that I was just an anonymous patient, as can so often happen, and consequently there was a great deal of confidence generated.

Mr Vanash Patel’s kind, thoughtful and understanding manner has been immensely reassuring to both me and my wife throughout a difficult time following my cancer diagnosis. Furthermore, Mr Patel’s rigorous approach has inspired confidence and helped me embrace the possibility of a positive and successful outcome. At every stage he has provide clear explanations regarding the options going forward while also addressing concerns and possible setbacks with candour. At all times my care has been compassionate and of the highest quality. Post op Mr Patel and his team were especially attentive in monitoring my progress and dealing with difficulties I experienced during recovery.

I had not met Mr Patel prior to my surgery as my original surgeon was on annual leave at the time of my surgery. However, Mr Patel was very approachable and reassuring. Following surgery, Mr Patel was supportive and caring and I appreciate the high standard of care that I received throughout my stay, from both him and his team. I highly recommend Mr Patel.

This year I was diagnosed with a serious colon issue. I then met doctor Vanash Patel who discussed my condition and told me what he will do to sort my problem out.He was very detailed on what I would have to be done but was always very optimistic and confident that he would be undertaking my surgery to get me back to good health and promised that following the first operation I would need a second although not so much of an emergency but would get me back in as soon as time would allow. From that meeting early this year he was always in touch, got me in for my first operation and recently sorted my second operation out as promised. I was a bit worried as I heard from others as even on the news about backlogs on operations for patients even for years. Whilst in hospital he came to see me nearly every day and put any fears I had behind me. To me doctor Patel is an extremely confident person, will be honest with you and only has his patients healthcare at mind. I would like to take this opportunity to thank him, his team and all the NHS staff at Watford General Hospital for what I could see for my time in there , for their caring approach to all patients especially under the current climate with covid, Thank You,Thank You,Thank You and hope everyone can have a bit of a break this Christmas

I was involved in a road traffic accident and required surgery on my stomach Dr Vanash Patel was the surgeon who performed a laparotomy on me and did a great job. I’m very grateful to Dr Patel performed as the operation saved my life and Dr Patel came to visit me each day after the operation to check on me and also update me on my progress.

Mr Patel is an amazing consultant. He listens, he explains, he gives you choices and you feel cared for. My terrifying experience of being diagnosed with bowel cancer after routine screening was definitely made easier by his kindness and his ability to make me feel my treatment and recovery were in the safest possible hands. Mr Patel was also very supportive to my family and personally rang my daughter after my surgery to let her know how it had gone which assured her of the care I was receiving. All round he made the experience as good as it could possibly be under the circumstances.

Immediate follow-up to my next of kin on the day of the operation was very reassuring. I felt that I was listened to and I understood the plan of care and what was to happen and then this plan was followed. I have been advised that the operation was a success with my next check-up now not needed until 12 months time. Couldn’t have asked for a better result. All outcomes were discussed and I was very lucky that the best outcome was what was achieved. I highly recommend this surgeon.

Following a routine test, I was diagnosed with colon cancer, in January 2022, by 23rd February I had been operated on by Vanash in Watford, and by Saturday 26th Feb. I was home. From Jan to Feb all went very speedily and very efficiently. All staff, at every stage, including the Colonoscopy Team at Hemel; the Colorectal Nurse Specialists, the Ultrasound Team, the Covid Team at Albans, and all the staff on the ward at Watford, were very good. Judging by my operation and the way I am recovering, I suspect, Mr Patel is an excellent surgeon. His manner, and inter-personal skill worked for me. The explanation at the initial interview was clear, with plenty of time for questions. He offered to speak with my daughter in law, who had a medical background, if she wanted to phone him. The diagram he drew showing what he was going to do was really helpful, it allowed me to follow things later in the supporting literature. All in all, excellent, thank you very much.

Mr Vanash Patel was excellent throughout my time under his care from initial diagnosis, surgery and throughout my post-operation recovery. He provided relevant information and answered any questions I had in a clear and concise way. During the week following my surgery, he was attentive and reassuring including over a weekend when I developed some complications which he addressed promptly and professionally. I could not have asked for better care and treatment.

Mr Patel my consultant, I couldn’t ask for a better doctor for 2 operations subtotal Colectomy and year later Proctectomy, he is an outstanding surgeon with the minimal pain throughout my operations, he explains , he has empathy, understanding and explains my procedures in details and plain language for me to understand. I couldn’t ask for any better outcome with my ulcerative colitis. The op was Laparoscopic which reduces the pain and release from hospital can be quicker, I am grateful and any patient is lucky to have Dr Patel to operate.

Mr Patel was exceptionally good as my consultant. I liked the way he listened carefully to what I told him about my illness and was very perceptive in responding. He made a big effort to address my concerns about the urgency caused by pain from the hernia and throughout showed consideration and professionalism. I was very impressed with the care I received from Mr Patel and his team.

Mr Patel has been an brilliant doctor, he reassured me at all times as I was a very anxious and nervous patient regarding my forthcoming surgery. Mr Patel outlined the procedure, listened to any questions I had and he was able to explain these very calmly to me. Amazing after-care was given from Mr Patel and also the team at Spire. Mr Patel’s secretary was also very prompt and efficient in responding to my messages. Thank you once again.

Had a day surgery at the Spire Bushey Hospital performed and under the care of Mr. V. Patel and very satisfied. Mr. Patel did managed my condition and exceeded my expectation from my first consultation, surgery, discharge, recovery and end result. I have undergone previous medical procedure and rate Mr. V. My experience with Vanash Patel (my surgeon) was extremely excellent. He was professional and told me exactly what to expect, and how my surgery will go. So far, he was correct, and made my overall experience in Bushey Hospital a pleasant one, not forgetting all the staff that made this whole process possible. At our consultation, Mr Patel explained fully what the operation entailed, did an examination and confirmed the diagnosis, listened to our questions and responded to them. I have a history of a blood clotting disorder and Mr Patel reassured us that he would be in contact with the teams responsible for this before the operation to ensure that all tests and medications required will be done before the operation. He was reassuring, listened to us, attentive to our concerns and gave clear explanations. His aftercare was also exemplary especially as I had a complication 2 days post-operatively. He dealt with the emergency swiftly and obtained care for me urgently even though he was away on a course himself. We are grateful for his care pre, during and post-operatively.

My assessment with Mr. Patel was very straightforward, considerate and clear in his approach. The following investigations were carried out quickly, with excellent explanation as he did in discussing the pros and cons undertaking the surgery. I was treated with respect and dignity throughout the whole process and support was taken to provide provision for my after care. I have made a complete recovery with very neat scarring. The hospital facilities were also excellent and caring.

Dr Patel from the first time I met him listened to my concerns and diagnosed me straight away. He was very helpful all the time and while under his care he was always at hand. Every day I was in hospital which was for 9 days he came to see me every morning before 8 am. Can’t think of any constructive feedback as was under the best care. Thank you
